I took the beginner wheel class last winter and I absolutely loved it! Cynthia is a great instructor with helpful information in getting started. The class starts with wheel and clay basics and through the 6 weeks you’re being taught basic wheel techniques. By the last few classes, you’re learning to throw heavier clay, and what glazing is offered at Just Claying Around. Included in this class is open studio time, where you can come in and work outside of class. It is super important to use the open wheel time to try out the techniques you learned in the previous class. Not only would I then have more experience on the wheel, but you’d have more pieces to trim and practice different techniques on. After my 1st 6-week course, I joined another 6 week beginner class that felt more like a solo study. I’d join the classes with other students, but Cynthia encouraged me to try additional skills. After that, I was hooked and am now a member of mud club! I highly recommend this session if you’re looking for an art class where you can kind of move at your own speed. Very worth the cost considering you get 6 2-hour classes, tools, clay, and open studio time.
